In my tiny town is one of California's beautiful state parks. Montana de Oro. Mountain of gold. Because the wildflowers spread like a golden comforter on the green mountains and reflect off the violent sea. First you drive a few miles through a huge eucalyptus grove--straight out of Jim Henson's Labyrinth movie. I've never spotted a friendly bog monster but I might have seen David Bowie slinking around.
Today we are putting on our layers of t shirts and hats and we are going to search for jade among the beach rocks.
